I don’t normally handicap Laurel Park, although it’s the track that I grew up at while I was much younger living in Maryland. I still remember it fondly and have some great memories as a kid. I recently received what us insiders call “backside” info from a fellow horseman or I should say horsewoman named Wendy Christ. Backside info is information that is vital to a horse’s performance but not available to the general public and definitely not available in the Daily Racing Form’s Past Performances. Wendy is a breeder located in Florida who passed along a little tidbit from Saar Treaty’s trainer about her last time out and her poor showing finishing 6th. She was scoped post race and found to have a throat infection hence the poor performance. Now fully recovered from the illness, she was back to training, but additionally she was training ”very aggressively” and ready to get back to her winning form. Today’s 8th Race at Laurel had a short field of 5 horses and Saar Treaty had a morning of 12-1 which upon I almost fell out of my chair on the floor licking my chops at the possible payoffs. I bet the race early and I have to admit I was the reason she fell from an opening line of 12-1 to 3-5. I almost sunk to the floor with greif but was relieved when she finally went off at 8-1. Boy was Wendy right and I give her all the credit…. Saar Treaty won from off the pace and paid $18.20 to win. Below is a link to a video of me at the window cashing my ticket. Not sure why the teller screen says S ANITA Race 2, but I can assure you that it was Laurel Park Race 8 that the payoff was for – Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQtCe-taQaA

Owner got a big kick out of video by the way – and I must give credit where credit is due, the Haney’s have been absolutely great about indulging my curiousity about our girl Saar Treaty.
